On Friday evening, a HuffPost reporter met Jeff Schoep, head of the National Socialist Movement, in a hotel parking lot in the Nashville area. Standing with three NSM subordinates, two of them armed, Schoep too seemed fixated on changing the optics of organized white supremacy in America. No more swastikas, he said. No more shouting racial epithets.
But it’s hard to teach an old Nazi new tricks. When a pair of young black men started taking photos of the Nazis hanging out in a hotel parking lot talking to some journalists, a middle-aged NSM member wearing SS lightning bolts on his jacket said, “Get out of here, n****rs.”
Having been raised by grandparents and extended family members in NE Saint Catherine, I am acutely aware of the challenges facing people of modest means all over the world and we of African Ancestry, irrespective of where we are domiciled, we are at the forefront of the disadvantaged. Some say we cannot make a difference, I say each of us can.
The greatest impediment to our growth is our inability to dream. Rosa Parks was a seamstress who made a tremendous impact simply by sitting down.
I ask well intentioned people wherever you are in the world , "use this site as a sounding board to those who are in positions of power, let your voices will be heard we are humans, no less than anyone, no more."
In Jamaica, the country of my birth the disadvantaged are shouted down by those with money and power, their voices exploited for votes or sensationalism, now you have an unfiltered voice to speak your mind as long as you do not defame, degrade, libel, or demagogue anyone.
